Mucoid Plaque |
The intestines can store a vast amount of partially
digested, putrefying matter called Mucoid Plaque for decades.
Mucoid plaque is a coined term used to describe the complex
glycoproteins secreted by the intestinal glands which forms a
gel-like slimy mucus layer which coats the intestinal canal.
Mucoid plaque is highly adhesive so it is almost impossible to
remove without using specially formulated herbs and bowel
cleansing formulas. Even people who have changed their diets
and eat only raw fruits and vegetables still have mucoid
plaque clinging to their bowels until they take the necessary
steps to remove it.

associated with acid bile which irritates and burns the
intestinal walls forcing it to secrete further mucin
contributing in the formation of mucoid plaque and creating a
perfect breeding ground for armies of pathogenic
micro-organisms, bacteria and parasites. A toxic and acid
bowel means toxic blood, toxic lymph, toxic organs and cells,
and poor health. It is thought that bowel diseases such as
Diverticulitis, Polps, Atrophic Gastritis, Cystic Fibrosis,
Malignancy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Peptic Ulcers,
Intestinal Metaplasia, Dysplasia, and others,
are altered or degraded stages of mucoid plaque (mucin).

The Colon |

The Colon (Large Intestine) is about 5-6 feet
long and is part of the digestive system. It takes food
about 10 hours to pass through the 20-30 feet of small
intestines and into the Colon, here, the Colon absorbs water
and salts from partially digested wastes, leaving firmer
stools to be expelled through the anus during a bowel
movement (when faeces reach the rectum, they are often about
65% water, 27% bacteria and 8% food residue, cellulose
fiber, indigestible materials and dead cells discarded by
the body)
"A person with a healthy colon will have
2 to 3 bowel movements per day, shortly after each meal
taken. Elimination should be complete and easy with no
noticeable signs of soiling on the toilet paper. The stool
should be long, light brown in colour with no offensive
odour and it should break apart with toilet flushing"

Problems with the colon show themselves in two ways -
disease of the colon, or disease of another body system
directly caused by the colon.

Here are a few of the most common illnesses:
ADHESIONS: are caused by
inflammation and irritation of the bowel wall, as the colon's
mucous membrane breaks down, the exposed, sticky bowel wall
starts to stick to itself, forming tight tunnels which make
the passage of faeces very difficult.
BALLOONING: backed up faeces create
"balloons" in sections of the colon, causing
painful, sometimes severe constipation.
BOWEL PARASITES: Parasites thrive
in an unhealthy, unclean intestine. When the bowel contains
undigested proteins, mucoid plaque and other toxins it can
harbour an amazing amount of harmful bacteria and parasites.
Once parasites are in the body, the only sure way to get them
out is to rid the body of the environment of filth that they
feed upon.

COLITIS: A condition where
inflammation of the colon, often causing bloody diarrhoea,
pain, gas, bloating and hard stools. Colitis is usually caused
by poor eating habits, stress, bacteria, food allergies,
emotional repression and energy stagnation of the liver.
DIVERTICULITIS: is a condition in
which mucous membranes lining the colon become inflamed,
resulting in the formation of small, pouch like areas in the
large intestine. These small sacs trap faeces and become a
source of infection and inflammation. Symptoms include:
cramping, bloating, tenderness on left side of abdomen,
constipation or diarrhoea and nausea. Poor diet, not enough
fiber, stress, and smoking contribute to making symptoms
worse.
IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS): The
normal rhythmic muscular contractions of the digestive tract
become irregular and uncoordinated leading to the accumulation
of mucous and toxins in the intestines resulting in diarrhoea,
alternating with constipation, bloating and gas, compounded by
stress and poor eating habits, overuse of antibiotics or
laxatives. Symptoms include: abdominal pain, mucus in the
stools, nausea, flatulence, bloating, anorexia, and
intolerance to certain foods.
MUCOSAL DYSFUNCTION: many forms,
generally causing mucous build-up, pain, infection, and
inflammation.
PROLAPSUS: when the transverse (middle section) of the
colon literally falls (especially found in women who have had
a hysterectomy) creating constipation and physical stress on
other organs. It is especially dangerous for the uterus
because a prolapsed colon blocks the fallopian tubes,
preventing eggs from reaching the uterus, disrupting menstrual
cycles, and causing infertility. Symptoms include: backache,
abdominal pain, urinary incontinence, excessive menstrual
bleeding, painful intercourse and constipation.
SPASTIC BOWEL: spasm of the bowel
muscle when it gets overworked, manifested in alternating
constipation and loose stools, often found in the descending,
sigmoid or ascending portions of the colon and induced by
digestive problems, improper alignment and psychological
stress
STRICTURES: bowel becomes very narrow in certain places, or
it becomes stretched - making it difficult to pass faeces
through.
ULCERATION: irritation, abrasion,
infection and concentrated toxins settle on colon muscle
tissue causing open sores, bleeding and pain. Ulcerations are
usually a result of poor eating habits, mental distress,
radiation burns and inharmonious living.

cancer that starts in either the Colon – Large intestine
or the rectum) is the number two cancer killer in the United
States effecting men and women equally"

Colon Cleansing |
Colon Cleansing is the fastest and most effective way to
rid the body of the toxic residues and putrefactive wastes in
the Colon that would otherwise clog the cells, poison the
bloodstream, obstruct digestion and sap vitality. Until these
toxins are removed from the system there is no way that the
body can repair and rebalance itself and inflammation,
irritation, corrosion, water retention, damage, disease and
weight gain will be a normal occurrence. Colon Cleansing and
detoxification methods can be used to assist the body in

Colonic Irrigation |
Colonic Irrigation, or a Colema, is a larger type of enema
that uses more water (4 to 5 Gallons) and is a deeper, more
powerful cleansing system. The water flows in and the toxic
waste matter flows out and is directed immediately into the
toilet.
The herbs we use in our programs at Atsumi are powerful
cleansers designed to stimulate release of these toxins. It is
essential to then remove these toxins from the body swiftly.
Colon Hydro-Therapy or Colema Board Cleansing, is the method
we utilize to remove toxins and avoid them being reabsorbed by
the body.
Your Fasting Program includes instruction in
self-administered Colema Board Cleansing. The process is
simple, safe, and hygienic. After initial training, the daily
process is self-administered in your private purpose built
Colema room. In this process, the Colon is cleansed through
the rectum, with an organic coffee mix that excites the walls
of the colon, and releases trapped toxins. Other options
include garlic for cleansing worms, Vitamin C (a highly
effective antioxidant) or pure water.
The process is more of a personal training than a service,
as we encourage all of our clients to invest in a colema
board, and re-visit the process at home as part of your body
maintenance routine.

Fasting |
Fasting is natures way of curing disease and one of the
quickest ways of encouraging the body to rid it self of
toxins, restore health and prolong life and vitality. When you
abstain from food, the digestive system can rest allowing the
body to use all of its energy and enzymes to focus on the
elimination of toxic debris and wastes. Fasting also
stimulates the pituitary gland, causing the release of growth
hormone which helps to repair and regenerate damaged cells
throughout the entire body.
It takes a minimum of three full days of fasting for the
body to start detoxifying the blood and tissues at a deep
level allowing deep deposits of toxic residues from the
joints, liver, blood, lymph, bowels and muscles to be removed.
We recommend a seven or ten day fast because it takes
precisely seven days to completely purify the bloodstream and
cleanse the lymphatic system of all residual wastes.

Drink plenty of Water |

One of the foundations of healthy living and a
body that functions well is ensuring our daily intake of
water. We all need at least 2 litres of water every day, not
counting tea or coffee. Water will help to prevent
dehydration, headaches, tension, swelling or bloating and
improve the overall quality of the skin. During your detox
program we encourage you to drink as much water as possible,
at least 4 litres to assist and speed up the removal of
toxins. Purified water is provided in your rooms and
available at water dispensers around the grounds.

Food and Diet |

Fibre, in the form of vegetables and grains,
for example, is invaluable in cleansing the body. Too much
protein and fat clogs the arteries, slows down the system
and makes us feel sluggish after eating. The less food is
cooked, the better it is for your body and immune system and
raw foods are excellent system cleansers. Optimal foods
include: leafy greens, carrots, baby sweetcorn, broccoli,
cabbage, tomatoes, mushrooms, celery, and onions. Try

Juicing |

You can pulp or liquidise almost any fruit or
vegetable into a delicious drink that can be very filling
and excellent for cleansing the system. The vitamins and
minerals contained in fruit and uncooked vegetables together
with their high liquid content, make them ideal for
cleansing and re-hydrating the body.

Skin Brushing |

Dry brushing should always begin at the feet
and move up the body, stroking towards the heart. It is an
excellent way of stimulating and increasing circulation to
help keep cellulite away. Dry brushing also stimulates
muscle contraction improving blood and lymph flow, clears
the pores, removes dead skin and stimulates sebum, which in
turn helps to improve the texture and tone of the skin.
After just a few days of following this regimen, the skin
will appear smoother, softer and boast a natural radiant

Exfoliation |

The skin is the largest organ and an excellent
way for the body to release toxins. Exfoliating in firm
circles, both large and small, all over the body opens and
cleans the pores, energises and revitalises the skin and
makes elimination unobstructed. We recommend that you
exfoliate the skin gently every three days, you may choose
to bring your own exfoliating cream with you, choose to
create a natural blend using honey, salt and coconut oil or
visit the Atsumi spa for a full body scrub.

Magnesium is an essential requirement for
nearly all our cellular activity, taking a bath in Epsom
Salts will draw toxins from the body speeding up the
elimination process while soothing aching joints and
muscles. It is an extremely relaxing, calming and warming
experience which can be arranged upon request.

Atsumi Herbal Steam |

Steam Inhalation is an excellent remedy for
any respiratory problems, particularly chest congestion,
bronchitis, and sinusitis. It promotes sweating which is a
natural method of purification that enables the body to

This is a great way to enhance the detox
programme. Atsumi offers morning yoga classes which are
light and suitable for all levels of ability. For those of
you with extra energy, who like a challenge, Muay Thai
training commences daily at 4:00pm at the local gym and we
have a ‘Something a Seven’ activity every
evening to give you the opportunity to try new things.
‘Something at Seven’ sessions include Tai Chi,
Power Yoga, Salsa Dancing, Thai Boxing and Guided

Using essential oils is rapidly becoming one

are absorbed through the skin at molecular level, passing

excellent form of therapy and all of our staff have a warm
and caring nature and great sense of humour. Laughter has
long been associated with happiness and emotional release,
but now researchers are suggesting that watching a
side-splitting film or comedy show can also do wonders for
your health. Laughter Therapy can be used to relieve stress,
fear and anger, boost blood flow and the immune system,
release emotional toxins and even burn calories. Comedy
films and programmes are provided on DVD in guest rooms and
movie nights can be arranged upon request.

bright new positive focus on your surroundings, both at home
and at work. Our surroundings are of inestimable power and
value to us. A happy and warm atmosphere will make you feel

wardrobe and cupboards. Bin anything that is junk and give
the rest to charity. Next, clean the windows and make sure
your home is filled with plants, pictures and lots of fresh

cleaners and cosmetics for harmful toxic ingredients such as
